Space became fascinated by the shape of the violin at an early age and resolved to become a violinist. After a series of detours through comic book art and rock music, she returned to intensive violin practice and studied at Xinghai Conservatory of Music. There, she began improvising with friends and connecting her violin to effects, eventually developing a music without rhythm or pitch. Discovering she wasn’t the first to explore this, she wandered by the sea, met Mo, and together they formed the band Saikung dogs, performing widely and building a network of collaborators.
During the pandemic, she co-founded Guangzhou Bitch with Azhen, and later met Matt, with whom she moved to London. To survive, she worked days walking dogs and nights making sundaes, but her musical drive remained. At GSMD, she performed widely and produced music. Her sound and interdisciplinary works have been showcased at major UK venues such as the hundred years gallery, Electrowerkz, Avalon Cafe, Spanners and Barbican Centre, and have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Resonance FM. She recently composed the soundtrack for the Arts Council England–funded artist film Unbound Zine- Xiaomei Going Overseas, which has been screened at Hoxton Hall and LADA
After initial frustrations with Max/MSP, she began composing using DSN-12 with her Nintendo 3DS . Her dawless live set embrace the unpredictable behaviors of devices and the temporal logic of feedback, creating live situations in which technology and performer converge as equal participants. She is currently preparing a European tour, traveling with her array of electronic instruments and continuing to explore the boundaries of noise and rhymic beats.
